Kabul, Afghanistan, March 11, 2015 – In an interview with media, the IEC chairman Dr. Ahmad Yousuf Nuristani says that he welcomes any kind of legal reforms in Electoral commissions.
He says that some media groups, civil societies and some members of the parliament are trying to disgrace the electoral system. He added that they would not let anyone who are trying to bring illegal reforms according to their own wishes.
Mr. Nuristani says that some groups are trying to hire their own persons in the electoral commissions under the name of reforms in order to increase their influence in the parliament.
In addition, the IEC chairman said that the members of the commission had been elected for six years and there is no legal reason for their dismissal.
In reaction to the survey conducted by Democracy International organization he says that their survey is baseless. He added that the mentioned organization had also published such reports in the past to achieve specific goals.
Worth mentioning that Democracy International organization had conducted a survey in which they claimed that 92.3 percent Afghans called for electoral reforms before Wolesi Jirga elections and 62 percent of people confirmed that the last presidential election results reflected their wills.
The IEC chairman says that the IEC cannot conduct forthcoming Wolesi Jirga elections due to unavailability of budget and the government of Afghanistan has the responsibility to provide budget for forthcoming Wolesi Jirga elections. He said that the he had already sent his plan to the president.
